It was a season of almost for South Shields FC, finishing in second place in the National League North. The club amassed 95 points, but were beaten to the league title by AFC Fylde.
Advancing into the semi-finals of the play-offs, a Paul Blackett penalty was enough to see the Mariners into the final.
However, they lost 2-0 to Kidderminster Harriers at their 1st Cloud Arena home and thus will spend the 2026/27 season in the National League North once again.
Ian Watson's side won 32 games in all competitions, starting the season with 15 games unbeaten. They lost 10 games and drew 11.
The Mariners advanced to the 1st Round Proper of the FA Cup, equalling their best performance in the competition.
They beat Guiseley 2-1, Chorley 4-1, and Spalding United 4-0 before losing to League Two side Shrewsbury Town 3-1.
In the FA Trophy, they fell at the third round, first beating Dunston UTS 6-2 in the second round and then losing to Macclesfield 1-0. No mean feat considering the Silkmen beat Premier League side Crystal Palace in the FA Cup this season.
The club's top scorer this campaign was Paul Blackett with 34 goals in all competitions; his 30 in the National League North saw him crowned as the competition's top scorer.
In second place was Cedwyn Scott with 20 goals, and Will Jenkins in third with ten from midfield.
In what was a stellar campaign for the Shields' midfielder, Jenkins was crowned top assister for the club with 18. Meaning he totalled 28 goal contributions from midfield.
The silver assist medal was awarded to Sonny Finch, with ten, and bronze went the way of Sean McGurk with nine.
Jenkins also played in the most games for Shields this season, playing 51 out of 53 games for the club.
Dan Dodds came in second place; the right back played 50 games for South Shields. In third place in terms of appearances was Paul Blackett with 49 games played.
South Shields used 30 different players in 2025/26, with seven of those being players from the academy set up at the club.
The club amassed 92 yellow cards across the campaign, but never received one red card.
Captain Robbie Tinkler received the most yellows with ten, with Jenkins in second with nine, and Blackett in third with seven.
Shields kept 17 clean sheets, which means a total of one in every three games (33.33%). The numbers were shared across two goalkeepers, Jasper Sheik and Tom Watson.
